ROBERTO DI MATTEO saluted his heroes
ROBERTO DI MATTEO saluted his heroes after the most amazing performance in Chelsea’s proud history.
The Blues dumped Barcelona out to reach their second ChampionsLeague final in one of the most sensational displays in the history
of this great competition.
They were all heroes. All 10 of them after John Terry’s sending off.
Di Matteo said: “It was incredible — so many events happened in the game
. I’m very happy and pleased for the players because they deserve
this moment.
“We’ve had a difficult season and it seems we always get something
special out when we need to — it is part of the DNA of these players.”
Down to 10 men after Terry’s crazy sending off — which left them with
a makeshift backline as their other centre-half Gary Cahill had limped
off after 12 minutes.
Down two goals after Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta seemed to
send Barcelona on their way after cancelling out Chelsea’s 1-0 lead from
the first leg.
Down but NOT out. Two minutes and 17 seconds into first-half injury time
Frank Lampard played a great pass to slot Ramires through and the Brazilian’s
lob stunned Barca.
Di Matteo added: “We had all the difficulties that you can imagine in any footb
ball game.
“Especially with Barcelona and the way they played and yet we qualified.
It’s quite incredible.
“I was just trying to get the best out of the group of players that we
have and, when you play Barcelona, it’s difficult with any team.
